Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
This artifact is the Weebly blog that I have kept up with since the time I started my master's program here at Kennesaw in the spring of 2015. When I took ITEC 7430, I was required to blog very often about various topics such as diversity and digital equity, and I have also been required to post a reflective blog after completing each class in the instructional technology program. Completing this blog shows mastery of Standard 6.2 - Reflection - which states that "candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences" because every blog that I have written throughout this program contains some type of evaluation and/or reflection over what I have learned through my studies and research.
When I was taking ITEC 7430, I regularly evaluated and reflected on my professional practice and dispositions. Every couple weeks, I was given a topic to research, and then I was required to blog about my discoveries. This was probably one of the most beneficial things I have done throughout my time in the instructional technology program because of how much knowledge I gained. For example, I researched how to effectively incorporate student blogging into the classroom, and then in my blog, I was able to reflect on how I could apply that knowledge into my 4th grade classroom. I also researched what podcasting would look like in the elementary classroom and part of that blog requirement was to create a podcast of my own. That was very beneficial since I got a chance to apply the knowledge that I researched. Also, at the end of each course that I have taken in the ITEC program, I have been required to post a blog reflecting on my learning. It was really good to reflect on my learning that took place throughout each course, and I was always able to describe at least several good things that I took away from each course. Each one has impacted my professional practice and dispositions in some way, and it was good to have a place to keep track of that.
Through completing this blog, I learned the importance of reflection. Knowledge is great, but if one does not take the time to determine how to best use that knowledge, then it will not be put to the best use. Through my research, I also came across a lot of other blogs that I now follow. As a result, I have been able to benefit from my own reflections as well as the reflections of others. This blog impacted faculty development and school improvement because I used a lot of the information that I reflected on with my teachers and students. Through the assignments that I had to post in my blog, I became a better technology teacher since I had the opportunity to research and test out a lot of Web 2.0 tools and activities before introducing them to teachers and students.
