This course has been very eye-opening for me. Previously, I did not really know the first thing about research and how to conduct it correctly. I also did not realize that there are a variety of research types depending on the desired outcome/solution. Also, when I found out that I would be compiling an annotated bibliography, I was concerned that I wouldn't find enough research articles actually useful to the project. I was very wrong!! I found more than enough because there truly is SO much research out there at our fingertips.
Before beginning this class, I had always equated the word research with the word boring. Just keeping it real here!! To me, research was the boring stuff that had to be done before putting a project together. However, now I know that research is SO crucial to any project. Creating my capstone showed me that clearly. Who is going to take my capstone seriously if I do not have research to back up why my project needs to happen? In addition, conducting research does not have to be boring. I now compare it to a scavenger hunt. There is so much research out there, so you just have to keep hunting until you find what you need for your specific purpose.
This class has really grown me as a technology coach/LSTC (local school technology coordinator) because it has shown me the importance of research in education. Before introducing any new technology ideas to my teachers, I will always look at what the research says. Research speaks volumes, and teachers will be more apt to try something new if the research shows it to be effective.
